Projects to do

Climate talk is full of jargon, so many older and busy people switch off before they understand why anything affects them.

Festivals and fairs leave heaps of waste behind because nobody planned who clears what, where it goes, and when.

Food travels, is packed and is sometimes thrown away before it reaches a plate, but the journey is invisible to most eaters.

People say avoiding single-use plastic is easy, but few have tried it for a full day to see where it actually gets hard.

Online orders often arrive in layers of plastic and cardboard that are far bigger than the product, and nobody tells the seller.

Power cuts disrupt study, work and food storage, yet few households record when they happen or what they actually lose.

Families get sales calls about rooftop solar but lack a clear list of what to ask, so they either hesitate or sign too quickly.

Dripping taps, overflowing tanks and long showers waste water daily, and nobody notices until supply runs short.

Campus bins are often placed by habit rather than need, so some overflow while others sit unused and rubbish ends up on the ground.

A new electric vehicle owner needs to find, reach and use a charging point, and unclear signs or access can put people off.

Most families have no idea which appliances use the bulk of their electricity, so they cannot choose where to save.

People pay their electricity bill every month without understanding what each line on it means or why it changes.

Many people own far more clothes than they wear, which means money and materials are tied up in items that sit unused.

Households choose between cylinders, piped gas, induction and firewood without a clear picture of convenience, safety and effort.

Mess halls mix food scraps, plastic and paper in the same bin because students are rushed and the labels are unclear.

Sustainability reports are long and formal, so most students never open one even though recruiters and investors expect them to.

People avoid public transport when they cannot tell where the stop is, when the bus comes or whether it is safe to wait.

Induction cookers are widely sold, yet many households keep using gas because of habit, worry about cookware or fear of power cuts.

Students and young workers hesitate over an electric scooter because the full cost of ownership is hard to compare with a petrol one.

Food delivery creates a lot of single-use packaging, and app design decides whether customers are nudged to cut it.

Residents in flats choose backup power based on neighbours' advice, without comparing noise, fuel, upkeep and how long each really lasts.

Clean-up drives often start with enthusiasm but end with piles of mixed rubbish that no one has arranged to collect or sort.

A small snack maker uses layered plastic that is hard to recycle but worries that changing it will hurt shelf life and sales.

Electricity tariffs have slabs and fixed charges, so households find it hard to predict how a change in habits will change the bill.
